Commissioners approve update to county pharmacy plan to conform with TruRx formulary

The Allen County Commissioners on March 28 approved an update to the county pharmacy benefit plan to conform to TruRx’s universal formulary effective April 1, 2025.
Terry David, the county benefit manager, said the county’s pharmacy provider changed to TruRx on Jan. 1, 2025, and a disruption analysis compared the prior vendor’s covered drugs to TruRx’s formulary. “There was around 80 impacted by prior authorization and 42 who were impacted from excluded medications,” David said. Staff mailed letters and TruRx personnel called affected members during a 90‑day transition window to allow patients and providers time to request prior authorizations or change medications.
David recommended adopting the formulary language used by TruRx now that the transition period has concluded; commissioners approved the update with no recorded opposition. The change follows the county’s vendor switch from Magellan to TruRx and standardizes plan language to match the new vendor’s coverage policies.
