Allen County approves joint hazardous-waste collection days with Fort Wayne

The Allen County Commissioners on March 28 approved a joint services agreement with the City of Fort Wayne to hold hazardous-waste collection events on April 12 and Oct. 11, 2025, at the county facility at 2260 Carroll Road.

The agreement, presented by Stacy Hubbard of the Allen County Department of Environmental Management, formalizes Saturday collection events that supplement the county’s year‑round Tuesday collections. “Over the past 6 years with our partnership, we have serviced over 3,700 households and have processed 316,000 pounds of material,” Hubbard said, citing the program’s prior performance.

Under the agreement, the City of Fort Wayne Solid Waste Department will provide up to four workers for each Saturday event and pay the cost of hazardous‑waste removal as billed by the county’s contractor, Veolia, including contractor mobilization and demobilization. The county will continue to accept and pay to process items not handled by the contractor (for example, latex paint, propane tanks and fire extinguishers) and will advertise the events. Minimal fees for residents will remain in place; the county accepts cash and personal checks.

Commissioners praised the county staff for running the events. A commissioner said the Saturday events are a “great resource for residents of Allen County.” No opposing votes were recorded; the motion passed.

The agreement moves forward with the April and October 2025 dates, and staff said they will coordinate on logistics and promotion with the City of Fort Wayne.
