Atchison managers report snow cleanup, pool staffing, sidewalk work, ARPA grants and retirements

Fire Chief Weiser (as reported by staff) said a new fire truck is being driven back to Atchison and is expected to arrive soon. Westhoff said ARPA nonprofit grant agreements are being processed and checks are being issued to awardees after they return signed grant agreements.
On housing and grants, staff said preapprovals for a CDBG housing-repair program are underway; staff are working with interested residents and urged potential applicants to come forward. Westhoff described the targeted area for that CDBG housing grant roughly as River Road to Tenth Street, and recommended that residents just outside that boundary still submit preapplications because boundaries could be adjusted.
In personnel news, Westhoff acknowledged the retirement of Jim Owens, the city's water and wastewater supervisor, after 33 years of service and said two internal promotions filled those supervisory roles.
