HAYSVILLE, Kan. — The Haysville City Council on May 12 authorized the purchase of a commercial chemical applicator for the parks department to apply fertilizers, herbicides and pesticides.
City staff recommended buying a Steel Green stand-behind commercial chemical applicator and reported the low bid was $22,270 from Rheem Sprinkler Supply. The parks superintendent said the department currently has two smaller sprayers and that a larger, certified applicator would allow crews to complete applications more quickly while complying with operational restrictions such as not spraying when winds exceed 10 mph.
Council discussed care around application near lakes and sensitive areas; staff said they use water-safe products near those features and follow label and regulatory requirements. The council moved to accept the Rheem Sprinkler Supply bid and approved the purchase.
The purchase will expand department capacity to complete pre-emergent and other seasonal applications in a timelier manner; staff noted timing is important because weather windows can be narrow for safe application.
