HAYSVILLE, Kan. — The Haysville City Council on May 12 approved a request from the Friends of the Haysville Community Library to hold the 45th annual citywide garage sale over a three-day period in August.
Ken Bell, representing the Friends of the Haysville Community Library, asked the council for permission to conduct the event Friday through Sunday in August so the Friends can raise funds for the library. He described the event as the organization’s largest annual fundraiser and said proceeds go to buy books and support library programming.
Council discussion noted disagreements among residents in prior years over whether the sale should be two or three days. The Friends had requested the three-day schedule. A motion was made to allow the Friends to hold the citywide garage sale Friday through Sunday in August, with the citywide certificate requirement and sales organized through the library as in prior years. The council voted to approve the request.
Council members did not adopt additional restrictions during the meeting; staff said certificates must be purchased through the library as part of the citywide coordination.
