HAYSVILLE, Kan. — The Haysville City Council on May 12 approved an ordinance rezoning real property generally located about 300 feet east of South Broadway Avenue, north of East Grand Avenue, from light industrial to light commercial.
A city planning staff member told the council the planning commission held a public hearing on the case in April and recommended approval. The staff presentation stated the zone change would allow commercial uses such as general retail, a bank, nursery/garden center, car wash or funeral home that are listed as permitted uses in the light commercial district.
Council members asked staff to confirm that any future development would follow the city’s permitting, utility hookup and site-plan review processes. The planning staff said infrastructure and building permits would be required before any new uses could open and that parking, landscaping and other code requirements would be reviewed at the site-plan stage.
Councilmember Crum moved to approve the ordinance adopting the zoning change “as presented,” and the council voted to adopt the zoning amendment. The vote as recorded during the meeting approved the ordinance and the official zoning map will be amended to reflect the change.
No specific project, building size or tenant was presented at the meeting; staff said those details will be addressed through future permits and site-plan review.
