The Maryville Town Council reappointed Joseph C. Fedanoff (Kapinkapingas, Doolin, P.C.) to serve as the town attorney for the council and several boards for calendar year 2025, after a brief debate and a recorded vote.
Council President Bella read a letter from Fedanoff asking to be considered for reappointment to serve the town council, planning commission, board of zoning appeals, redevelopment commission, economic development commission and other boards. Councilman Pettit moved to reappoint Mr. Fedanoff and Councilwoman Hardaway seconded the motion.
During discussion, one council member raised concerns and urged the council to consider another legal firm. The council member said Fedanoff had represented the Municipal Consolidation District (MCD) in matters the speaker thought were relevant and alleged that at a recent Plan Commission meeting the attorney had asserted that “the town has not adopted the First Amendment,” which the council member said was false and a cause for concern. The speaker described perceived legal expenses and court work that had been costly to the town and urged the council to explore alternatives.
After debate, the council took a roll call vote and reappointed Joseph C. Fedanoff; the motion carried with seven votes in favor as recorded by the clerk.
Action details: Motion to reappoint Joseph C. Fedanoff to serve as town attorney for the calendar year 2025. Mover: Councilman Sean Pettit. Second: Councilwoman Hardaway. Vote: recorded roll call in favor; motion carried.
No formal ethics or conflict‑of‑interest finding was recorded during the meeting; the concerned council member said they would continue to raise the matter for future consideration.
