The Town of Merrillville Board of Zoning Appeals approved a variance of use, case Z13VU2‑0425, to allow a 4‑by‑8 LED message center to be attached to an existing pole sign at a dealership site listed in the application at 1771 West 80th Avenue (as submitted in the petitioner’s materials).
The petitioner, identifying himself as Samsada of Risha Sign and Printing, said the request is to add the LED message board to a 10x6 existing sign so the total sign area would be 92 square feet. The staff report summarized the request as a variance of use from section 1‑89‑8 for a C‑3 highway commercial zoning district, on a parcel of about 3.16 acres.
No members of the public spoke against the petition. After a motion and second, the board voted unanimously on roll call to approve the variance; staff noted the board’s recommendation will be forwarded to Town Council, and the petitioner was told staff will notify him when the council agenda date is set.
