The Town Council approved a proclamation designating April 22, 2025, as Arbor Day and recognized a local sorority chapter that is donating and planting 20 trees in the town.
Tanya Burns, president of the Alpha Gamma Rho Omega chapter, told the council the chapter and its members would plant 20 trees — identified as redwood and blackwood oak — at Rosenbaum Park on Friday. The council moved and seconded the proclamation and approved it by voice vote.
Stormwater director Matt Lake told council members that the town had again received the Tree City USA designation from the National Arbor Day Foundation, marking 15 years of recognition, and that the town received a growth award as well. Lake said the town will run a community orchard pruning workshop on May 15 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Dean and Barbara White Community Center and that the Little Calumet River Basin Development Commission approved $39,265 toward a stormwater plan update.
Councilors thanked the sorority and staff for the planting and community outreach. The proclamation was adopted with no recorded opposition in the meeting record.
