The Town of Merrillville’s budget-and-finance committee reported that its American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) grant-match program is officially closed after several years of operation.
Vice President Neal told the council the program provided matching funds to help homeowners and businesses rehabilitate and restore existing structures. Over the program’s two versions the town used about $210,000 in matching funds to assist 38 homeowners and 10 businesses. Council members described the program as successful in improving property values, curb appeal and local pride.
Town staff said the last grant match payment has been made and no new awards will be issued under this round; any future programs would require separate council approval and funding.
The council did not take formal action on this report; it was received as informational in committee reports.
