Planner outlines comprehensive-plan Chapter 2 updates on demographics, schools and facilities

Zach Martin, city planner, presented a progress update on revisions to Chapter 2 of the Ottawa comprehensive plan, which covers existing conditions and demographics. No action was taken.
Martin said the update reorganizes and revises sections on land use, growth and development, demographics, education, community facilities, public safety, and parks and recreation. He described a complete rewrite of the demographics and education sections to reflect recent school closures, new school facilities and student population shifts, and said he is coordinating with the finance department on local-tax information.
Parks and recreation revisions include updates for parks created since the last plan adoption; the planner said the municipal golf course is city-owned and will be added to the appropriate section but needs placement in the document as an amenity rather than a park. Martin told commissioners he will compile a full revised draft by May for consolidated review rather than piecemeal changes.
Commissioners commended the work and asked for precise placements for new facilities in the draft. No formal action or vote was taken; staff will return with a complete revised document for public comment and further commission review.
