The City Commission voted to award construction and related contracts for airport lighting and to authorize staff to pursue Federal Aviation Administration grant funding at its May 20 meeting.
City staff explained bids for taxiway-edge lighting on Taxiways B and C, rehabilitation of the rotating beacon and electrical work tied to the annual Airport Capital Improvement Program. The staff presentation said the project is funded through two FAA grants (a 90/10 arrangement described in the materials) and that the low bid came in "substantially under the engineer's estimate." Staff estimated the city’s portion at roughly $16,000 to $17,000 toward a larger project cost.
A motion to "award the construction contract to Third Generation Electric for project implementation" passed after a second. Commissioners then approved Amendment No. 1 to Olson's professional services agreement to include construction-phase and closeout services, and authorized the city manager to sign the FAA grant application and to accept the subsequent FAA grant when awarded.
No roll-call vote totals were recorded in the meeting minutes; commissioners voted by voice and the chair announced motions carried.
