The commission discussed start time, staging and rain‑plan details. Roy said the ceremony will begin at 3:10 p.m. at the south side of the Oak Grove, adjacent to the two‑story concession building near Paul Sarver Park and Volker Avenue. Commissioners agreed to pre‑mark planting locations before the ceremony to avoid delays. "I think it's very important. I don't want to do it on the day of," Jody (Urban Forester, City of Euclid) said of marking planting locations.
Volunteers, wood chips and watering logistics were also addressed. Commissioners decided to err on the side of having extra mulch and agreed to obtain hoses and buckets for planting. One commissioner suggested planning for two 5‑gallon buckets of wood chips per tree to ensure adequate coverage.
The commission expects short remarks at the ceremony: brief statements by Principal Corey Russell from the high school and a five‑minute presentation from a vice principal, alongside a short introduction from the Shade Tree Commission. The Student Conservation Association representative will attend to recruit volunteers and share sign‑up information, pending follow‑up coordination with commission staff.
Why it matters: Arbor Day plantings are a core public outreach and canopy‑building activity for Euclid; the event pairs city staff, students and neighborhood volunteers and provides visible tree planting in public green space.
A rain location in the Shore Cultural Center lobby has been reserved. Commissioners will finalize volunteer assignments and a printed program that will be emailed to members 24 hours before the event.
