Shade Tree Commission agrees in principle to outreach tote and materials, budget decision deferred

The Euclid Shade Tree Commission on May 15 approved the concept of a portable outreach tote to store tabling materials and sample literature for city events and neighborhood presentations, with details and final budget to be decided at the June commission meeting.

Commissioners discussed practical elements for a reusable information kit: a rolling tote for transport, a table runner (already ordered and expected to arrive), sample copies of publications to show what belongs in the kit, bulk give‑aways such as stickers, and a QR code to link to the commission’s or city’s webpages rather than printing large quantities of handouts. Laura suggested using a QR code in addition to printed materials. Commissioners said the tote would be used at recurring events including the 200th Street Stroll, the Big Clean and community presentations such as program talks at the Chardon Hills Neighborhood Association.

The commission voiced unanimous support for creating the tote and organizing tabling materials, but deferred any formal spending decision to the June meeting; one commissioner estimated about $50 for a starter kit while others suggested that a rolling tote and higher‑grade stickers could cost more. Commissioners also discussed possible student or community engagement projects to design a logo or activities for children to use at tables. Staff noted the city has an Amazon account that can be used for purchases. No purchase was authorized at the May 15 meeting; the committee will produce a purchasing list to present in June.
