Highway bids: Commissioners voted to accept the bids opened in December for corrugated metal pipe and high-density N‑12 pipe so the highway department had multiple suppliers available. The motion was made and carried during the meeting; the highway department said accepting all bids gives flexibility if one vendor lacks stock.
Meeting schedule: The board approved (motion and majority support recorded) a 2025 meeting schedule of the first Tuesday of every month at 6 p.m. Commissioners discussed the possibility of calling special meetings when necessary and said they would continue to call special meetings for time-sensitive approvals.
Appointments and delegates: By agreement the board appointed Commissioner Misty Hess as the county—s representative to Thrive West Central; the board also appointed Ashley Peffley as Commissioner Hess—s delegate to the Vermillion County Solid Waste Board. The board approved the mayor of Clinton—s nomination of Judy Howard to the Vermillion County Health Board (Howard is a registered nurse and a former board member). Commissioners asked staff to notify the relevant offices and to assemble a full board for Thrive West Central when possible.
Courthouse closure ordinance: On a first-reading motion, the board approved county ordinance 2025-1, which retroactively documented the courthouse closure to the public on Jan. 6, 2025, because of inclement weather; the board approved the ordinance on first reading and indicated it would proceed with required publication steps for a subsequent reading/adoption process.
Ambulance appropriation: The board approved an additional appropriation request of $50,000 for ambulance services pending receipt of the detailed invoice and report from the ambulance provider and Park County officials. The motion instructed staff to draft the appropriation paperwork and to coordinate with Park County and the county council president to complete necessary steps.
Coroner transport vehicle: Coroner Todd Young asked commissioners for permission to seek council approval to purchase a 2023 Ford Transit van for transport, quoted at $48,768, to reduce reliance on funeral homes and outside transport providers. Commissioners asked Young to provide detailed usage history (past transports per year) and a written proposal, including whether the vehicle would be marked and total costs, before they would forward the purchase to the county council.
