The St. Joseph County Board of Commissioners approved change order number 6 on May 13 for the Fillmore Road project in the Indiana Enterprise Center area.
County staff said the change order covers additional water-main work required to relocate a fire hydrant and carries an increase of $35,500, about a 1.4% increase to the contract. The presenter said cumulative cost increases from change orders on the project total about 14.9% to date.
Commissioners asked staff why the total had reached 14.9%. Staff said recent change orders included construction of an access road to reach work areas and to allow R and L carriers and other users to access sites during construction; staff said the access road was the largest single cost among the earlier change orders. The presenter described the access road and other items as beneficial to on-site operations.
The commissioners approved change order number 6 by voice vote. The project covers Fillmore Road from Larson to the west, in the Indiana Enterprise Center area; staff did not provide a revised total contract amount during the meeting.
No additional environmental or permit issues were raised on the record during the change-order discussion.
