County IT director seeks approval for VxRail hardware to bring GIS in-house

St. Joseph County IT Director Richard Warfield told the Board of Commissioners on May 6 that the county will buy VxRail hardware and related licensing to migrate the county GIS from a vendor system to county-run servers.
"Richard Warfield, IT director. The office is on the Third Floor of the Law Building across the street. This is for I'm asking for the approval of the hardware and software for the new migration from Maycock to the county for the GIS system. And the funds for this has already been approved through council, so, it's already budgeted for," Warfield said.
Warfield said the hardware would support the GIS growth and that the county would run the system on its own hardware. "So it'll be independent upon with the county's software," he said. He told commissioners the purchase had been discussed at budget time the prior year and that funds were available.
The board voted to approve the VxRail node and licensing agreement. Commissioners Hazen and Maxmeier voted "aye"; the motion carried.
