Council approves annexation fiscal plan and advances Nichols annexation ordinance

The Columbus City Council on April 15 approved a fiscal plan resolution and advanced an annexation ordinance for a single residential lot owned by Daryl and Melanie Nichols.
Planning staff told the council the property is a little more than one acre, already zoned RS2 (single-family residential), and that the applicants seek annexation so they can access city utilities. Planning staff said the proposed use—building a home—is consistent with the city’s comprehensive plan and with surrounding development. The Planning Commission forwarded the annexation to council with a unanimous favorable recommendation.
Jeff Bergen, a planning staff member, was present during the discussion and offered to answer questions. The council confirmed the property’s location near 200 South, adjacent to existing city limits and subdivisions. No rezoning was proposed.
A motion to pass the fiscal plan resolution carried on roll call vote. Councilors then voted to pass the annexation ordinance on second reading and place it in the proper channels for finalization. The property owner was present in the audience for the discussion but did not make substantive remarks during the hearing.
