Parole granted to Rodney Scott; panel requires quarterly community outreach

The Louisiana Committee on Parole granted parole to Rodney Scott on May 14 after members said his prison record, education and institutional leadership supported release to Alabama. The hearing was held at Allen Correctional Facility and conducted remotely from Baton Rouge.

Scott, DOC 576277, spoke at the hearing and acknowledged repeated criminal conduct and harm to victims and family. “I do take ownership of this,” he told the panel. He described faith-based programming, earning an associate and bachelor's degree, mentoring other inmates and serving as an inmate representative to the secretary's office while at Allen.

The panel heard testimony from Allen staff, including Warden Brent Thompson and others who described Scott's leadership and positive interactions with staff and other inmates. Family members including Amari Brundridge and Lisa Scott also spoke in support, describing plans to receive Scott and provide a support network on release.

Parole committee members voted unanimously to grant parole. The board member who announced the decision said she would add a special condition that Scott perform community-service outreach speaking to at-risk youth at least quarterly, with the precise number of hours to be set by his parole officer. The committee also confirmed that the interstate transfer (ICOTS) to Alabama had been approved.

The board distinguished the panel's decision from past conduct: members repeatedly referenced Scott's admissions and expressions of remorse as well as the institutional record that they said justified supervised release with conditions. Implementation of the parole will follow standard supervision procedures for interstate transfers.

Scott's parole was approved at the conclusion of the hearing; the committee recorded the decision and released him to supervised parole under the stated conditions.
