Parole board keeps Rashad Mac on supervision, directs six-month work-release placement

Board members said the alternative matters because it keeps Mac under supervision while prioritizing job placement and behavioral programming that could reduce future violations.
During the hearing, the board read alleged violations including a guilty plea to criminal damage to property, multiple positive tests for marijuana earlier in 2024 (June, August and October), and a history of failing some reporting requirements. Mac told the panel he had been trying to secure work and education, including pursuing a GED and a warehousing job; he acknowledged past marijuana use but said he would stop if asked by the board. He told the panel he had been with his partner for about six years and planned to live with family if released.
Acting Chair Pete Freeman said he preferred to avoid revocation and instead recommended work release so Mac could secure employment. Freeman said, “in lieu of revocation, I'm gonna put you in work release for 6 months.” Other panel members concurred and added that Mac should be enrolled in anger-management or domestic-violence classes as appropriate. The board recorded concurrence and ordered transfer to work release and recommended programming while in custody.
