Resident urges immediate speed humps on Thornbrook Ridge to protect children

During scheduled public comment on Feb. 3, Jeanne Locklear of Thornbrook Ridge (Fifth Ward) asked the Columbia City Council to direct city management to place speed humps on Thornbrook Ridge to reduce what she described as frequent excessive speeds endangering children and damaging property.
Locklear said her neighborhood requested traffic calming as far back as 2013 and that the street was rated number 15 on a 2023 neighborhood management prioritization list. She said portable radar trailers have been used occasionally but that no permanent traffic‑calming measures have been implemented. Locklear described recent incidents of vehicles striking mailboxes, signs and a street light, and she said neighborhood yards and irrigation systems were damaged repeatedly. She also described two near‑miss incidents: once while in her vehicle and once while standing near her mailbox.
Locklear requested the council instruct city management to place speed humps on Thornbrook Ridge without further delay. The council acknowledged the comment and asked staff to follow up with residents; no formal council action was recorded at the meeting.
