The Lawrence City Board of Public Works and Safety tabled an appeal by a Fire Department employee and approved a series of routine administrative items at its regular meeting on April 10, 2025.
The board voted to table the Lawrence Fire Department appeal involving Brian Albrecht until its next meeting. Albrecht confirmed he had read the materials and was ready to proceed, but the board moved and seconded a motion to table the matter after noting a key participant was not present.
The board approved a request from the Lawrence Police Department to begin the election process for one appointed merit commissioner whose term has expired. The board’s approval allows the department to start recruitment and nomination procedures for either a new member or a reappointment.
The board adopted a resolution declaring a 2013 Ford Interceptor (VIN 1FAHP2M88DG2128219) surplus and authorized disposal, with proceeds to be returned to the city’s general fund. A police captain explained that vehicles of that model year have reached the end of economically feasible service life and repairs were becoming too costly.
Department of Public Works staff reported that the city opened bids for the Community Crossing Matching Grant (CCMG) 2025-1 resurfacing project and received three responses. Staff asked for and received the board’s permission to review the bids, identify the lowest responsive bidder, begin contract negotiations, and present the resulting contract at the board’s April 24, 2025 meeting.
The board also approved its regular meeting minutes from March 27, 2025, and received brief acknowledgments of the presence of Mayor Whitfield and Council members Mazur and Sharron Freeman. No members of the public spoke during the citizen-comments portion. The meeting was adjourned following routine motions.
