Lawrence Redevelopment Commission ratifies contractor termination, approves Baker Tilly engagement

The commission opened the meeting at 3:30 p.m. and moved quickly through routine business. The chair called for a motion to approve the minutes from the previous meeting; a motion was made and seconded and the chair recorded the motion as approved. The chair then called for a motion to approve claims and purchase orders for payment; discussion was minimal and the chair recorded the motion as approved.
The commission next considered a motion to ratify the termination of an independent contractor services agreement. A motion and second were recorded and the chair announced the ayes had it and the motion passed. The final item of new business was an engagement agreement for 2025 with Baker Tilly; after a motion and a second the chair recorded the vote in favor and the agreement was initiated.
Greg Goodnight told the commission he is serving as interim director for the redevelopment commission and summarized his background in Indiana municipal work, including three terms as mayor of Kokomo and consulting work for several Indiana cities. "I'm serving as interim director for the redevelopment commission," Goodnight said. He said he was getting "the lay of the land" and expected to provide a more thorough report at the next meeting.
An unnamed member of the Lawrence Municipal Council offered a brief point of personal privilege urging the commission to consider sustainability and aesthetics alongside economic development, saying, "Please always keep that in mind." No public comment was recorded on the transcript. The meeting adjourned after a motion to adjourn was approved.
