Police Chief Bigsby informed the Common Council that a recent social media video showing an interaction between a law enforcement officer and a civilian is under investigation by the department’s internal affairs division.
Chief Bigsby read a prepared statement saying the department “is aware of the recent video circulating on social media” and that the matter “is currently under investigation by our department's internal affairs division in accordance with agency protocols.” He said the department aims for a “thorough and impartial review” and will release updates as permitted by law.
When asked whether the officer or officers involved are on administrative leave, Chief Bigsby confirmed they are. The chief asked for the public’s patience while investigators review body-worn camera footage, witness statements and other evidence and encouraged anyone with information to come forward.
No formal action or vote was recorded on the matter during the meeting; the chief said the department will provide updates “as things become available and are allowed by law.”
