Board approves easement, legal contract and several administrative measures; multiple items passed by roll call

The Natchitoches Parish School Board approved several noncontroversial and administrative items March 13, including an easement for Atmos Energy, a contract for hurricane-related legal services, policy revisions and job-description updates.
Easement for utility work: The board approved a resolution granting an underground and above-ground utility easement for Atmos Energy described as a 0.511-acre parcel situated in Section 21, Township 11 North Range 7 West, Natchitoches Parish. Staff said the easement is routine and does not affect Lakeview operations.
Hurricane Laura litigation services: The board approved entering a contingency contract with attorneys Joe Stamey and Taylor Townsend to pursue Hurricane Laura-related claims. Outside counsel told the board the case has developed since filing; counsel requested an executive-session update at a future meeting and said a written contingency contract is required to support a fee award by a federal judge.
Policy and personnel actions: The board approved revisions to policy 6.13 (visitors), replaced the accounting manager job description with a retirement-coordinator/accounting-assistant description, and approved a new crossing-guard job description so the district may recruit and hire crossing guards (the district will continue coordination with city police for training and support). The board also approved an AHEC summer-2025 agreement and a number of consent-agenda items.
Informational reports: Food-service director Shauna Hicks reported average daily production revenue near $20,000 and said the program is operating in the black. Federal programs director reported submission of the ESSER IV expenditure report; early-childhood staff reported strong pre-K enrollment activity — as of March 13 there were 96 online pre-K applications with 52 complete, and several coordinated enrollment events had drawn dozens of applicants.
