The Natchitoches Parish School Board authorized staff to advertise for hunting-lease bids and clarified the lease term and renewal process. The board approved placing the leases out for competitive bid and specified contract language that the initial lease will cover up to June 30, 2028 (effectively a roughly 2 years, 9 months term from an immediate start), with a board-option three-year renewal at the end of that term.
Business/operations staff told the board they will attach a copy of the lease to the bid packet, plan a 45-day bid period, and aim to have approvals by the July or August board meeting. Staff said the advertised lease will include an option to renew at the board’s discretion; the board settled on a 3-year initial term with a 3-year option and directed staff to include notice and renewal timing in the contract so that incoming and outgoing lessees have time to remove equipment if the lessee changes.
Board members discussed start and end dates in relation to hunting and scouting seasons and asked that the contract cycle align with a summer cycle that ends June 30 to reduce mid-season turnover. The board approved the motion by roll call. Staff said they will include a notice-of-renewal provision and will aim for a July award to allow new lessees time to prepare before fall seasons.
