Miller told the board NextEra — an energy company the president described as operating in multiple energy sectors — approached the parish about a solar farm about two years ago and sought a pilot payment in lieu of taxes. He said the industrial development board negotiated an agreement to make a pilot payment instead of the property entering the regular tax rolls and that, under the parish administration’s direction, the industrial development board ensured the school board would receive the payment.
Miller handed the physical check to the board and said the amount represented the 2024 investment attributed to the pilot agreement. He called the check a “real check” that could be deposited and suggested board staff (Mister McNeely) would receive it for deposit. The board acknowledged the presentation with applause and thanks.
No formal motion was required for the presentation. Board members later referenced the funds during budget and capital-outlay discussions but did not vote specifically to accept the check during the presentation segment.
