The Tangipahoa Parish School Board Finance Committee voted unanimously to not give notice and not renew an existing ad valorem tax dedicated to paying the cost of the alternative school program in Hammond Consolidated School District No. 1.
Staff described the levy as the Hammond alternative tax that originally paid for in-school suspension when it was piloted in Hammond and noted the program has since operated throughout the district. Administration recommended not renewing the tax; a board member moved to eliminate the renewal notice and another board member seconded. The motion passed unanimously.
The transcript includes the formal meeting notice language stating the district would meet April 1, 2025, to consider action regarding calling an election for renewal of the levy, but the finance committee voted not to move forward with that notice or renewal.
