The South Bend Common Council on May 12 tabled Resolution 25-27, a renewal for a 2025 scrap metal dealer/recycling license for Alternative 2 LLC at 700 West Chippewa Avenue, citing unresolved questions about the business’s corporate status.
Eric Glavich, director of Growth and Opportunity, presented the renewal and said required inspections by the Police, Fire, Neighborhood Resources and Zoning departments had been completed with no issues; the item was presented separately because a fire-department inspection had been delayed by a valve installation. During committee and council questions, Council member Dr. Davis noted that the Indiana Secretary of State listing showed the company as inactive or dissolved with an inactive date of 11/05/2018 and asked staff to investigate why the business appears to have been unlicensed since 2018.
Glavich said he did not have an immediate answer and offered to review the Secretary of State status and the city’s LEAD online reporting registration noted by the police. Council moved to table the resolution for further review and set it for reconsideration on May 28; the motion passed 9-0.
Ending: The license renewal remains tabled pending staff follow-up about the company’s Secretary of State status and the police LEAD reporting classification; council requested a clearer explanation before final action.
