Michelle Adams, business license administrator in the Department of Community Investment, presented six renewal applications and said each property had been reviewed by the South Bend Police Department, the Fire Inspection Bureau, Neighborhood Resources, and the Zoning Department. The properties and business names presented for renewal were: LKQ Pick Your Part Midwest (1602 South Lafayette Boulevard); Big Bulldog Auto Parts (3700 South Gertrude Street); OmniSource (1305 Prairie Avenue); Republic Services (2500 Greentech Drive); Stede's Enterprises (3109 South Gertrude); and Paul’s Auto Yard (3300 South Main Street).
Adams said the police review considered criminal histories and the likelihood of public-safety risk and recommended the licenses be issued. Fire and code inspections found properties compliant with fire-code and site maintenance requirements; zoning confirmed the uses are legal nonconforming and no active notices of violation were on file. Committee members asked whether complaints existed; Adams said none of the six properties had active complaints or violations.
The committee voted to send the renewal resolution (Bill 25-20) to the full council with a favorable recommendation.
