The Muncie Board of Public Works and Safety approved the register of claims totaling $740,838 and several routine permits during a brief Jan. 22 meeting.
City Controller Craig Wright said the claims packet, sent to members the previous afternoon, included routine utility bills and a payment to Tyler Technologies for workstation licenses and maintenance. "Really not a whole lot on it this week," Wright said before opening the register to questions.
The board granted a street closure application for the Muncie Mission’s annual "Walk a Mile in My Shoes" fundraiser, scheduled for Feb. 15. Bob Scott, representing the Muncie Mission, described the event as a major fundraiser and said the route will run from the field house to the mission.
The board also approved a noise exemption for Ball State University’s Office of Student Life to hold a late-night carnival on April 25 from 5 p.m. to midnight. Anna, assistant director of Spirit and Traditions in Ball State’s Office of Student Life, said the event is an alcohol-alternative program and that organizers are not planning fireworks this year. "So we got a couple of complaints about that from the student body. So that's something that we're pivoting from," Anna said, and noted the event will be contained with fencing and police on site.
A handicap parking permit renewal for Nai Naelle Gilmore, listed at 801 East Jackson, was approved on the consent portion of the agenda; no applicant was present. The board also approved the minutes of its Jan. 15 meeting.
The meeting was short and procedural: members moved, seconded and unanimously approved each item with no extended debate. Paperwork for approved permits was signed after the meeting.
