The resolution would designate an eight-year real property tax abatement for the rehabilitation of a long-vacant building at 225–229 South Michigan Street — referred to in the hearing as Center City Place.
Joseph Molnar, assistant director of Growth and Opportunity, described the property as a roughly 38,000-square-foot building in downtown South Bend that has been vacant “for a decade plus” and has not seen a major renovation in about 50 years. Molnar said the total projected investment is “a little over $5,800,000” and estimated the project would create 11 new full-time jobs with an annual payroll…
