Board approves noise exemption for Ball State student-run music festival on April 12

The Muncie Board of Public Works and Safety on March 19 approved a noise-exemption request from Ball State University for a student-run music festival planned April 12, 2025.
Colin Bell, representing Ball State, told the board the event is a learning exercise for students and will be held on the north end of campus near Botsford Swinford Hall. "We're planning a music festival that day, April 12 on 2025. It's looking to start at 8AM and then end at 8PM," Bell said. He noted the event ran in 2022 and 2023 and is returning this year after a one-year pause.
Board members asked whether alcohol was expected and how the university would respond if it appeared; Bell said no alcohol was anticipated and that the university would call University Police Department if enforcement were needed: "In that case, if there is alcohol in any kind of sense like that, we would call UPD and have UPD come and handle the situation."
Linda Kreger moved approval of the noise exemption and Ted Baker seconded; the board voted and the motion carried. Ball State will pick up signed paperwork after the meeting.
