Parks staff report 148 internship applicants, confirm Kids to the Parks and Juneteenth event plans

She said staff will email accepted applicants a welcome letter with attendance policy, dress code and direct-deposit instructions.
Nikki also confirmed National Kids to the Park Day is scheduled for May 17 at Canon Commons with games, bounce houses, a DJ and vendors; staff asked community organizations and vendors to contact the parks office to arrange participation. For Juneteenth, Nikki said organizers plan an all-day event at McCullough Park on June 14, expect about 500 people and requested equipment (bleachers, large stage, tent and cabin) from the parks department; the board approved that request and staff said the parks department will invoice the organizers for rental items. Muncie Police Chief Nate Sloan has agreed to supply police assistance for the event.
Staff also reported ongoing work to finalize pool- and swim-club contracts: the YMCA will continue pool management and the Cardinal Swim Club has requested to rent pool space; staff said budget and contract details will be circulated to the board for review.
What’s next: staff to finalize interview schedules and notify internship candidates, circulate final program and budget numbers for summer sports and pool management, and coordinate event logistics with sanitation and police.
