The Muncie Board of Public Works and Safety on March 19 approved a $101,650 contract with Blackmore and Buckner to replace the roof at a city pool bathhouse.
The Office of Community Development’s project lead, Nikita Adams, told the board the city ran three rounds of bidding for the job; one contractor withdrew after the second round and Blackmore and Buckner was the only bidder in the third round. "We did 3 rounds of bids for this project," Adams said. She added the company reduced its original price by about $9,000 before the board vote.
The board moved and approved the contract during the meeting. Linda Kreger moved approval and Ted Baker seconded; the board voted aloud and the motion carried.
Adams said the bid was higher than ideal but that construction costs have risen generally: "They have come down about $9,000 from where they were at the start." A board member noted seeing the pool busy during summer as a reason to keep the facility in good repair.
Board staff will complete the contract paperwork following the vote and proceed with scheduling the work.
