The Muncie Board of Public Works and Safety approved a street-closure permit on March 26 for Game Changers RC’s May Day fundraiser, scheduled for May 3.
Erica Gelbach, representing Game Changers RC, said the event uses primarily grass areas at the Ross Convention Center and a baseball diamond; she listed a short set of streets that may be closed near the Common Market and a nearby apartment entrance and said most activity will be on the grounds. Gelbach said this is a fundraising event to support community needs including holiday assistance and funerals.
Board members asked whether alcohol sales or public-safety planning had been considered because the Common Market sells alcohol and the event includes a bike and motorcycle show. Gelbach said the group is not organizing alcohol sales and that Common Market holds its own liquor license; she acknowledged the board’s suggestion to consider police presence and said she would follow up. A motion to approve the street-closure request was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote.
Permit paperwork will be provided to the applicant after the meeting.
