The Muncie Redevelopment Commission voted unanimously March 20 to transfer three properties — 719, 819 and 927 West Powers — to the Muncie Land Bank to support upcoming housing projects and grant applications.
City staff said the commission has held the parcels for several years: 819 since 2016, 719 since 2017 and 927 since 2018. Staff described the transfer as a mechanism to provide required local match when applying for redevelopment grants and to let the land bank manage disposition and development with neighborhood input.
Nate Howard of the Muncie Land Bank said the parcels will be part of an Old West End comprehensive community development effort and described plans to partner with nonprofit and for‑profit developers on rehab and new construction. Howard said the land bank is building a disposition pipeline and plans community outreach in multiple neighborhoods before finalizing development plans. He also told commissioners the land bank has applied for grants and received a $20,000 community foundation award to support operations.
Commissioners approved the transfer by roll call. Staff indicated the parcels will enter the land bank inventory and be considered for shovel‑ready rehab or new construction as part of a coordinated neighborhood plan. The land bank said it will return to the commission with disposition details as projects are finalized.
