The action came after Matt Wagley, deputy controller, told the board he had not included some claim descriptions in the agenda email and offered to answer questions. "I was running short on time yesterday, so I didn't get a chance to include, you know, a smattering of the claims in the email that I sent out," Wagley said.
Board members pressed for clarity on a single line on page 18 of the register that showed approximately $38,000 under "Make My Move" with the description listed as "miscellaneous." "What was the expense for? Is that an annual recruiting campaign, not the actual expenses to the people that come here, you know, the stipends?" a board member asked. Wagley said he would dig into the item and provide further detail.
Board members also noted that the Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC) reimburses a portion of the city's costs for the Make My Move program. Other items discussed during the claims review included a $48,000 website expense and a $4,030.40 camera warranty noted by a member of the public.
After questions, a board member moved approval of the claims and the motion passed by voice vote.
The board did not change or delay payment pending further detail; members asked staff to follow up with a breakdown of the Make My Move charge for a future meeting or distribution to the board.
