Board Chair convened a special meeting to announce and introduce the new superintendent and to vote on and sign the contract. Board members said they had read the contract in advance and moved directly to a vote after a short discussion and brief remarks praising the search process.
The hiring capped a multi-stage search run with support from Human Capital Enterprises. Board members said the district received 21–22 applicants, held multiple interview days and conducted background checks before selecting Miller. One board member said the process involved “many, many, many hours” of work by trustees and district staff.
On the motion to approve Todd Miller and the contract as presented, the board chair called for the question; members responded with “aye,” and the motion passed unanimously. The contract is effective July 1, as recorded during the meeting.
Representatives of Human Capital Enterprises addressed the board and thanked staff and community members for their role in the search. A Human Capital representative said the firm and a colleague, Robin, enjoyed getting to know the community and staff and that the district’s criteria guided the selection of a candidate who “most closely aligned with the criteria” the board set.
Todd Miller, speaking after the vote, said he began his career in the classroom and served 12 years as a superintendent in Santiam Canyon. “I know I have to earn the trust in the community,” Miller said, adding that his door will be open to phone calls and emails as he prepares to begin the role. He said he plans to listen, learn, collaborate and support classroom work once in the district.
Board members repeatedly thanked Tanya for her hours coordinating the search and the community volunteers who provided feedback on finalists. Trustees described the candidate pool as strong and said they were confident the board selected an exceptional candidate.
The board adjourned after confirming the July 1 start date and noting the district’s next regular meeting date on the calendar.
