Illinois Valley Mathletes place third in division; one student wins top individual score

Illinois Valley High School Mathletes and their adviser, Melissa Clice, updated the board on the team’s performance this year.

Clice said she brought an 18-student delegation to competitions that include individual events (algebra, logarithms, systems of equations) and group events. She told the board Illinois Valley finished third in its division, the JV team brought home third place in its event and that student Dorian Whitlinger finished first individually out of 157 students — a step up from a tie for second the prior year.
Salutatorian and Mathletes member Indio Heberlein described how Mathletes gave him the experience of competing on a team and the excitement of solving difficult problems under time pressure.
Board members praised the team and encouraged students to connect with the board and district for future opportunities.
