EUEA staff says 501(c)(3) application is pending; donations may be accepted with disclosure

Staff told the board that, while the IRS determination letter is pending, the organization may accept donations if donors are informed that the 501(c)(3) application is pending. Staff also cautioned that grant-making entities often require a current 501(c)(3) status or a fiscal sponsor; for grant applications the board may need to secure a fiscal sponsor or otherwise confirm eligibility before pursuing competitive grants.
Board members asked procedural questions about retroactivity and prior forms submitted; staff said they had tried an abbreviated form earlier, which was denied, and submitted the long form. Staff also said that EUEA has not accepted donations or applied for grants that would create exposure during the pending period. The board agreed to wait for the IRS letter and to continue operating under the newly adopted bylaws.
