Board approves revocable right-of-way permit for perpendicular parking at Linde Gas on Alma Street

The Elkhart City Board of Public Works on Feb. 4 approved a revocable right-of-way permit allowing perpendicular parking on Alma Street at Linde Gas and Equipment, 1820 Mishawaka/Alma Street, subject to conditions in the staff memorandum.
Staff told the board the site historically had some perpendicular parking where roughly half the vehicles overhung public right-of-way and half were on private property; more recently, driveway and paving work occurred without a permit. Staff said the property owner and contractor have been cooperative while correcting the issues.
Mark McLaughlin, branch manager for Linde Gas and Equipment, told the board the company is working with city staff "to become compliant" and that the business intends to become fully compliant with city requirements. The board approved the revocable permit by voice vote.
