The Evansville Common Council elected Councilman Trotman as council president and Councilman Paul Green as vice president at its Jan. 13 meeting.
Why it matters: Leadership selections determine committee assignments and meeting organization for the council over the coming year.
Councilman Hieronymus nominated Trotman for president; the nomination was seconded by Councilman Paul Green. With no other nominations, the council approved Trotman by voice vote. After the vote, Councilman Trotman told his colleagues, "I just wanna say thank you so much for your trust in me and I look forward to working collaboratively and productively over the next year."
For vice president, Councilman Hieronymus nominated Councilman Paul Green and Councilwoman Mosby seconded the nomination. The council approved Green by roll call (9-0).
As his first actions as president, Trotman announced committee chair appointments: Councilwoman Carruthers will chair Administration & Safety and Development; Councilwoman Kayla Lindsey will chair Public Works; and Councilwoman Allen will chair Finance. The president said department liaison assignments will be finalized at a later date.
The council then proceeded to vote on consent items and resolutions.
