Evansville council ratifies two Teamsters contracts covering city services and transit

The Evansville Common Council on Jan. 13 adopted resolutions ratifying collective-bargaining agreements between the City of Evansville and the chauffeurs, teamsters and helpers Local Union No. 215, and a separate agreement between the Metropolitan Evansville Transit System (METS) and the same union, each covering Jan. 1, 2025, through Dec. 31, 2027.
Why it matters: The contracts cover employees who operate buses, maintain streets and handle other essential public services; council members and a union representative cited their work during a recent winter storm as part of the discussion that preceded the votes.
The council opened the floor before voting to allow union representatives to speak. A union representative identified in the record only as "Chuck" told the council, "This is my last hurrah. So, we have reached a tentative agreement. Our members have ratified these 2 contracts we have in front of you tonight." He thanked city employees across departments for their work in difficult weather.
Council members responded with expressions of appreciation for city workers and for the negotiation process; those remarks were offered collectively by multiple council members during the discussion.
Both resolutions were adopted by roll call. Resolution C-2025-02, ratifying the agreement between the City of Evansville and the chauffeurs, teamsters and helpers local union number 215, passed on a 9-0 vote. Resolution C-2025-03, ratifying the agreement between METS and the same local union, also passed 9-0.
The council did not identify any amendments to the agreements during the meeting. The agreements are recorded in the meeting packet as covering the period from Jan. 1, 2025, to Dec. 31, 2027; no budgetary details or wage schedules were read into the record at the meeting.
Council members and the union representative framed the agreements as part of the city’s broader effort to maintain essential public services; no formal dissent or recorded abstentions were entered during the roll-call votes.
