The mayor said the city supports property-tax relief done responsibly but expressed concern the bill as drafted would reduce revenues for essential services, particularly public safety, and shift costs to local governments without a clear state-funded replacement.
Council members who spoke supported the resolution, noting the state’s surplus and the need for the state to share in any relief or provide a responsible replacement mechanism. One councilor summarized the concern as “do more with less” if the bill passes and said the first-year reduction could be about $7.6 million with a projected three-year reduction of approximately $24 million based on information the mayor cited.
The council recorded a unanimous roll call vote of 9–0 and declared Resolution C-20-25-07 adopted.
