Council vacates unused public utility easements for storage yard on West Side property

The Evansville Common Council on Jan. 27 adopted an ordinance vacating certain 10-foot public utility easements that remain where an alley once ran near Locust Street parking garage and properties at 22 SE Fourth St. and 15 SE Fifth St.
Jim Morley Jr., project engineer, told the council the easements lie wholly within a fenced storage yard owned by Jerry David Enterprises on the city’s west side; utilities that would be affected have signed off because no utilities currently occupy the interest. The applicant requested the vacation so the company will not have to work around an unused easement in its laydown area.
Council members asked whether the ward representative had concerns; Councilman Brinkmeyer said he had not heard negatives and supported the vacation. No members of the public spoke. The roll-call vote showed 9 ayes, 0 nays and the ordinance was declared adopted.
