The Baker City Council introduced and swore in Michael Carlson as the city's new fire chief on April 8.
Staff said Carlson joins Baker City from the Moser fire district and previously served in Texas and in the U.S. Army as a firefighter. Carlson briefly addressed the council and said he and his family recently moved to Baker City; his wife and children attended the ceremony. The mayor administered the oath; Carlson repeated the oath to "uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States, the Constitution of the State of Oregon and the Charter of the City of Baker City" and to "perform the duties of fire chief of Baker City to the best of my ability."
The council did not take other action on the appointment at the meeting; staff noted Carlson had already closed on a home in the city and that he was settling in with his family.
