The Lafayette City Council approved a set of special-event requests and banner permits for upcoming community events.
The council approved multiple dates for "Yoga on the Bridge," an event sponsored by B Moves yoga studio; the presiding official described the dates as "attached" to the application and said there were no concerns. Mary Buckley, representing Bistro 501, confirmed plans for the restaurant's lobster bake: "Yes. Rain date for Wednesday, the next day, June 11," and said the event has been held for nine years and continued through the pandemic as a takeout option. The council approved the Bistro 501 lobster bake permit for June 10 with the stated rain date.
The council also approved a Matchbox fundraiser set for July 11 from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.; the presiding official noted the event typically includes a street closure in front of Matchbox. Two banner requests were approved as well: one for a bagel/construction expo and another for a "Stars and Stripes" banner.
Council members thanked event organizers and volunteers; one member specifically praised work to address trash at the farmers market this year. All special-event and banner requests were approved by motion and voice vote.
