The Lafayette City council approved a special-event request from the Lafayette Aviators to hold a street festival on July 12, with the city closing Wallace Avenue for the event.
Dustin Elliott, director of food and beverage for the Aviators, said the festival would run from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. before a home game, and that gates would open for the game at 6 p.m. He described the event as free and family-oriented, with face painters, bounce houses, food trucks and promotional giveaways. “We usually get about a thousand people between that 2 to 6 mark,” Elliott said.
Councilmembers moved and seconded a motion to approve the special-event request; the motion passed by voice vote. No public-safety or traffic-control details, permits, or additional city conditions were included in the transcript.
