Council approves commissary contract credit, surplus property declarations, claims and several event permits

Purchasing and Fleet: Dave Payne, Purchasing Manager, asked the council to declare a 1999 Bobcat 14-inch asphalt planer (city ID 9943A) surplus so it can be traded in on an upcoming purchase. The council approved the surplus declaration. Payne also asked the council to declare six all-in-one PCs surplus so they can be sold on govdeals.com; the council approved that request.
Claims: Jeremy Deal, City Controller, presented claims totaling $1,834,467.38 for the council’s approval. During questions, councilmembers asked about line items including an acronym listed as SCBAS; Deal confirmed this refers to self-contained breathing apparatus repairs. Deal also identified a software item—referred to in the meeting as "Calio"—as a Motorola software application that assists the police department with communications.
Special events and banners: The council approved multiple special-event requests and banner permits. Approved items included use of the pedestrian bridge on Friday, May 16, for the Bike to Work Day event; street closures for the Round the Fountain Art Fair on May 24 from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Hunger Hike planned for Sept. 21 at Riehle Plaza and an attached parking lot; and banner requests for Food Finders and the Taste of Tippecanoe.
All motions were moved, seconded and approved by voice vote.
